About Us
Women in Energy Sierra Leone Limited was founded in 2020 by Margaret Y. Mansaray with a deep commitment to addressing energy challenges and creating innovative solutions for the people of Sierra Leone. The journey began during Margaret's university days at Njala University in the Moyamba District, when a tragic event deeply impacted her. She witnessed the unfortunate rape of a young girl while fetching firewood—an incident that ignited a passion in Margaret to create safer, more sustainable energy options for women and girls.
This powerful motivation led to the creation of the Smart Green Stove, a clean cooking solution designed to provide a safer, healthier, and more efficient alternative to traditional cooking methods. Since its inception in 2019, the Smart Green Stove has significantly reduced smoke emissions, improved cooking efficiency, and enhanced safety for families across Sierra Leone. This innovative product has gained recognition and support from esteemed partners such as the World Bank, UNDP Sierra Leone, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and through our growing local business initiatives.
At Women in Energy, we are not only driven by innovation but by our core mission of promoting gender equality. We are committed to empowering women and girls by reducing their exposure to harmful environmental practices and opening doors to new economic and leadership opportunities in the clean energy sector.
Building on our success in clean cooking, we have strategically expanded our work into new areas that address broader energy and climate challenges. These include:
- Smart Green Briquette – providing affordable, eco-friendly fuel alternatives.
- Smart Green Services– offering sustainable energy solutions and technical services.
- Smart Green Cooling – introducing solar-powered cooling systems for food preservation and livelihood support.
